   A haunting melody and like much of Minchin’s more melodious songs it builds up into an emotional and tear-provoking crescendo. I heard him say in an interview once, in his usual understated and self deprecating way, that the beginning of this song was just him having a “secular rant”. Putting the sentimental and catchy chorus aside for a moment and take the trouble to listen to the cleaver, intelligent deep meaning verse. His mastery of words never fails to amaze me. He’s proclaiming his atheism in his uniquely articulate and persuasive way. Just watch out, I’m certain in forthcoming Decembers, this song is going to get the recognition it deserves. Just wonderful.

   Stunning. A very sweet and touching christmas song. It may even leave you dabbing at your lovely eyes with a tissue. Buy this fantastically beautiful song!
